This guide is for volunteer drivers who offer to transport members to and from activities (carpooling), as well as their passengers. Carpooling is recommended for environmental considerations but not mandatory and members may choose to drive to the activity but need to be mindful some locations have limited space for car parking.
Meeting Locations
- The activity leader will designate a specific location and time for participants to gather prior to the event. At the meeting location, the leader may request volunteer drivers. The number of vehicles required will be based on the number of participants attending the activity
Driver Requirements
- The volunteer driver must hold a valid Australian driver's license or an equivalent recognized license permitting them to drive in Australia
- The driver is expected to operate the vehicle with care and must comply with all road regulations including not using a mobile phone while driving and observing speed limits
Vehicle Requirements
- The vehicle used for carpooling must be in good condition, roadworthy, and registered
- The BBW insurer does not cover any motor vehicle damage and BBW accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage to vehicles during carpooling
Passenger Requirements
- As a courtesy to your driver, include a change of clothes and footwear for your return trip and a dry-bag or plastic bag for dirty clothes/gear, especially if conditions are likely to be wet or muddy
Vehicle Contribution
- Passengers are expected to contribute to the vehicle running costs, as outlined in the activity description
- This contribution is typically made in cash or by electronic transfer (bank transfer, PayId) directly to the driver on the return journey, unless otherwise stated
- Suggested contribution - updated 23/04/2022:
100kms return = $20
200kms return = $25-30
300kms return = $35-45
400kms return = $50-$60
