Pack Training to improve mountain fitness carrying a "through walk pack". Start with 7-10 kgs (or what you are comfortable with), and add weight as you gain fitness. Bottles of water are handy - 1 litre water = 1kg. Make sure you balance weight in your pack and feel comfortable with the weight before increasing it.
