This long distance trail goes through spectacular country in the French Alps.  It can be walked camping all the way or staying in Refuges with meals & a bed provided. There are a number of variations,  some very useful in bad weather.

The GR 5  finishes at Nice, but an alternative finish is via the GR52 which stays longer in the Alps and reaches the sea at Menton.
