The walk starts from Yellow Pinch car park, which is the same car park used to access Mt Barney. Mt Ernest lies between Mt Barney and Mt Lindesay, and we get great views of both. We follow the track from Yellow Pinch, that goes to South Ridge, for a short distance then turn left onto a long ridge that takes us up the North Easterly side of the mountain.
